‘Progressive and growth oriented’

ERODE: The Erode chapter of the Confederation of Indian Industry has welcomed the Tamil Nadu Government’s budget.

In a release, P. C. Duraisamy, Chairman, CII, Erode District, has termed the budget progressive and growth oriented.

The announcement of setting up new special economic zones in backward districts, development of Tier Two cities, increased allocation for agriculture, health education, transportation, etc., would enhance the competitiveness and ensure inclusive growth.

The Chairman has also urged the Government to commission new power projects. “The Government should quickly commission the new power projects as outlined in the budget such as the 600 MW North Chennai and Mettur thermal power plants and the 1,600 MW Udangudi power plant to manage the power shortage in the State.”

He also appreciated the Government reducing tax on rubberised textile fabrics and soya oil, turmeric powder, chilly powder and jaggery.

The Chairman wanted the Tamil Nadu Government to give special attention for textile industries in and around Coimbatore region, which was undergoing a tough phase because of the appreciating rupee and rising raw material cost.
