CHENNAI: A meeting to stress the need for communal harmony and peace in the wake of the violence in Orissa and other parts of the country was organised by Christians in suburban Avadi on Sunday.

Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore A.M. Chinnappa said people should ensure communal harmony with the tool of forgiveness and tolerance. He urged government authorities to make arrangements to save innocent lives and rehabilitate all victims of the violence in Orissa and other parts of the country.

Leaders of various Christian denominations, who participated in the meeting, demanded the government to protect the people from those resorting to violence.
