The Central government would be providing educational scholarships and hostel fees to the children of ex-servicemen and servicemen as follows:
Engineering, medical and other professional courses: Scholarship: Rs.10,000; hostel fees: Rs.4,000.
Undergraduate courses in arts and science colleges and diploma courses in polytechnic colleges: Scholarship: Rs.7,500; hostel fees: Rs.4,000
School students (only scholarship): Standards 1 to 5 (Rs.500); classes 6-8 (Rs.800); classes 9 and 10 (Rs.1000); classes 11 and 12 (Rs.1500).
ITI students: Scholarship: Rs.2,500; hostel fees: Rs.4,000.
According to a release from S. Manivannan, Deputy Director of Ex-Servicemen’s Welfare, Vellore, there would be no income ceiling for servicemen (serving in all the three services) up to the level of junior commissioned officers for eligibility of scholarships for their children. Besides, only those who are not availing of scholarships offered by the Departments of Adi Dravidar Welfare and Backward Classes and Most Backward Classes Welfare of the State government, and who are not getting the free textbooks given by the State government to students studying in government and aided schools would be eligible for the scholarships.
Eligible students could obtain the prescribed application forms from the office of the Deputy Director of Ex-Servicemen’s Welfare, Vellore, at 10.30 a.m. on June 29. Further particulars could be had by contacting the Deputy Director during working hours.
