The district administration has constituted ‘child protection committees’ in all 95 village panchayats and in 55 town panchayats to ensure care and protection to the children.

According to the Collector, S. Nagarajan, both the Central and the State Governments were implementing the Integrated Child Protection Scheme for the welfare of children.

State-level committees were functioning with their focus on protection of children’s rights and welfare and to implement government’s rules and regulations.

Likewise, the government has constituted district-level child welfare committees, with the Collector as its chairman, under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000 and the Amendment Act 2006.

Focus on benefits

The block-level child protection committees have been formed to take the benefits of the scheme to the children completely as per the scheme guidelines and for recommending child protection schemes and monitoring them.

These committees would be headed by the presidents of the respective panchayats.
