A two-and-a-half-year-old child died after eating ‘sathunavu urundai’ (nutritious meal ball) and egg at an Anganwadi in Anaicut, while four other children who vomited were admitted to the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital.

The children who vomited on consuming the food items were taken to the Primary Health Centre in Anaicut, where Manikandan (two-and-a-half years) was declared brought dead. The others were admitted to the GVMCH.

A Somasundaram, Deputy Director of Health Services, Vellore, said food samples have been sent to the Food Safety Officer, Vellore. The cause of the death is yet to be ascertained, he said.
