ERODE: After affecting thousands of people in Erode district, the viral fever suspected to be chikungunya has spread to Tirupur and Coimbatore.

Though those affected have been cured of fever, now hundreds of men and women are waiting in Government hospitals and private clinics here to get treatment for joint pain.

T. Muthukrishnan, a Siddha doctor, said that herbal juice would help the chikungunya-affected persons.

He said the herbal juice containing various herbs had been supplied to the Siddha ward of the Government headquarters Hospital and was available to the public free-of-cost.

He said that it was necessary to improve the resistance power of the patients affected with chikungunya and suggested them to take tulsi, coloured vegetables like carrot, beans and fruits.

He said on behalf of the Inner Wheel Club of Erode North, a seminar on chikungunya and treatment for the same will be conducted on September 1 in the Government Headquarters Hospital. Meanwhile in Erode Government Girls Higher Secondary School, a chikungunya awareness programme was conducted on Wednesday.

Students were asked to keep their surroundings clean and not to allow stagnation of water around their houses.

The municipal administration has also intensified fogging in the town.
