Social Welfare Minister Poongothai Aladi Aruna meets injured protestors

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Sunday will meet representatives of visually impaired who have been protesting in the city over the past couple of days.

Social Welfare Minister Poongothai Aladi Aruna on Saturday morning visited the injured protestors who were admitted to Government Royapettah Hospital and assured them that the Chief Minister would meet them on Sunday. Following this assurance, the protestors temporarily suspended their agitation on Saturday, Murugesan of the College Students and Graduate Association of the Blind said.

Dr. Poongothai said there were certain demands that the Chief Minister himself would have to authorise and the others would be implemented immediately.

Position explained

Speaking to The Hindu, she said some of the schemes were already in the pipeline, and she had explained the position to the representatives of the visually impaired during a meeting she held with them on September 26.
