Trips from T. Nagar, Ambattur Estate, Red Hills

TIRUVALLUR: Tiruvallur town, headquarters of Tiruvallur district, was brought under the domain of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation with the introduction of three new services from the town to different parts of Chennai on Tuesday.

Launching the services at a function at the Tiruvallur bus stand, Transport Minister K. N. Nehru said the long-pending demand for city bus services from important locations in Chennai to Tiruvallur was fulfilled thanks to the decision of the Government to extend the MTC service area to 50 km.

To begin with, MTC services would be operated from Tiruvallur to T.Nagar in south Chennai, to Ambattur Industrial Estate in central Chennai and to Red Hills in north Chennai. Steps would also be initiated to introduce MTC services from Koyambedu to Tiruvallur and between Koyambedu and Poondi, a prominent weekend tourist spot in the district, the Minister added.

Participating in the function, MTC Managing Director R. Balasubramanian said the service to T. Nagar from Tiruvallur (Route No. 597 deluxe) would be operated via Saidapet, Guindy, Porur, Vellavedu, Aranvoyal Kuppam and Manavala Nagar with a total of 20 trips a day, each taking 95 minutes. Similarly, the service to Ambattur Industrial Estate (Route No. 572) would be operated as a yellow-line service through Kakalur, Perumalpattu, Veppampattu, Thirunindravur, Pattabiram, Avadi, Thirumullaivoyal and Ambattur with a total of 24 trips a day, each taking 75 minutes.

The service between Red Hills and Tiruvallur (Route No. 505) would be operated as a blue-line service via Alamathi, Poochi Athipedu, Thamaraipakkam junction, Kizhanur, Othikadu and Eekadu with 24 trips a day, each taking 80 minutes, he said.

Fisheries Minister K. P. P. Samy, Sriperumbudur MP A. Krishnasamy, Tiruvallur MLA E. A. P. Sivaji and Collector Ranvir Prasad also participated in the function.
