CHENNAI: Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jairam Ramesh has suggested that the Chennai Trade Centre be named after DMK leader and former Union Minister Murasoli Maran.
"As a tribute to his [Maran's] vision for this Centre," it should be renamed the Murasoli Maran Trade Centre, he said. Mr. Ramesh made the suggestion at the inauguration of the India International Leather Fair 2007, which is being held at the Centre. He requested N.N. Khanna, chairman of India Trade Promotion Organisation, which is a partner in the joint venture that promotes the facility, to consider the change in name. Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dayanidhi Maran, who was also present at the function, welcomed the suggestion, which would honour his father.
