The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam alleged that the ruling party had resorted to the clandestine operation of smuggling articles, such as wet grinders, fans and mixers to the Yercaud Assembly constituency, where a by-election would be held next month. In a representation presented to Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar, the DMK levelled the allegation on the basis of news reports. The CEO was requested to clarify who – the police or the returning officer – should grant permission to parties to conduct meetings in the constituency.
