MADURAI: The 13th edition of the Chamber Trade Fair, being organised every year at the Tamukkam Ground here by the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, opens on December 18.
With this year’s theme being ‘Industrial linkage empowers agriculture,’ around 30 per cent of the total 300 stalls had been allotted for agro-based industries, its president V. Neethi Mohan said while addressing a press conference here on Monday.
A special feature of the fair this year is the ‘Save to be saved’ event for class XI and XII students which is intended to encourage conservation of water resources, electricity, fuel and management of food. Prizes worth a total of Rs. 1 lakh would be awarded to 16 students with the best models kept on display between December 25 and 29 at the stalls. School students had been given discount coupons to attract more of them, he said. The fair would have stalls exhibiting household articles, office equipment, imported furniture, toys, consumer articles, electronic goods, building materials, computers and electronic gadgets.
Many public sector agencies were also putting up stalls. Apart from the Railways, State-run telecom major Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Departments of Central Excise, Service Tax and Small Savings, District Industries Centre (DIC), Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation Limited (TIIC), and other departments were also putting up stalls. Mr. Neethi Mohan said that 10 stalls had been allotted for self-help groups at concessional rates to encourage them. Daily prizes on lucky draws would be given, besides two bumper prizes.
