From Tuticorin to Vaanji Maniyatchchi
: The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Tuticorin, has expressed apprehension over delay in operating connect train services from Tuticorin to Vaanji Maniyatchchi to board the express train to Coimbatore.
Even after the announcements made in the railway budget, the link train was not made operational.
It was certainly disappointing for the people, including traders, D.R. Kodeeswaran, secretary, ICCI, Tuticorin, said here on Friday.
Though Tuticorin, which has the potential for business transactions, is surging ahead with export trade, the absence of rail connectivity to cities like Chennai and Coimbatore during daytime until now has caused serious concern among traders.
A series of public and private power plant projects are coming up.
The ferry service between Tuticorin and Colombo is also expected to commence, shortly.
In spite of these developments and peaking commercial activities in Tuticorin, rail connectivity has remained a distant reach.
Since trade operations are emerging under the logistic support of V.O. Chidambaranar Port, priority should also be accorded to enhance rail connectivity from Tuticorin to the northern region of Tamil Nadu.
Once these services are made, people can board Coimbatore-bound express train from Nagercoil during daytime.
or boarding Chennai-bound Guruvayur express train during daytime, steps should be taken to operate a shuttle train to Vaanji Maniyatchchi from Tuticorin.
The crowd of passengers during this summer vacation could also be handled well, he said.
