Motorcycle-borne youths allegedly snatched gold chains from two women in different cases here on Friday.

Sudha Narayanan (54), a retired teacher residing in ‘V' Block at Anna Nagar, was going to a shop around 4 p.m. on Friday when a lone motorcyclist snatched her six-sovereign chain. The victim raised an alarm drawing the attention of some passers-by who tried to apprehend the suspect. However, he managed to escape from the scene.

On information, the Anna Nagar police launched a combing operation to locate the accused. “Police came within minutes and searched for the accused. He came in front of me in the motorcycle as if to make some enquiry and snatched my chain. In the shock, I could not note down the vehicle number,” Ms. Sudha said.

In Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, two persons who came on a motorcycle snatched a seven-sovereign chain from a woman on Friday. Sundareswari (68) of Krishna Nagar was returning home from a shop when the suspects who followed snatched her gold chain and sped away. Commissioner of Police J.K. Tripathy said police had stepped up patrolling by ‘Yellow Brigade' and ‘Blue Bridge' forces in residential areas and remotely inhabited roads.
