CHENNAI: The All-India Christian Council and the All-India Confederation of SC/ST Organisations have urged the Centre not to allow the Sangh Parivar to organise "Shabri Kumbh Mela" from February 11 to 13 at Dangs in Gujarat.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, council president Joseph D'Souza and confederation chairman Udit Raj said the VHP, the RSS, the Bajrang Dal, the Hindu Jagran Manch and the Vanavasi Kalyan Parishad were using the conference as a ploy to create communal disturbances in the country in general, and in Gujarat in particular. The Sangh Parivar was trying hard to convert the tribals into Hindus.

Messrs Joseph D'Souza and Udit Raj said they had met Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil.
