Janata Dal (Secular) State Vice President and Advocate, M. Chockalingam has sought the intervention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to reconsider the Central government’s decision to end telegram services.

Stating that many people were using this service, he said that the government was contemplating to replace this traditional mode of service with modern means of communication system like cellular phones.

Pointing out that the telegram service has more credibility than any other mode of communication; Mr. Chockalingam said that even today any certified copy in the form of telegram sent to the court of law as proof of evidence was considered as documentary evidence.

Hence the telegram service should be continued in public interest, said Mr. Chockalingam.
