Central Government staff to be drafted for poll duty

In areas identified as sensitive in Nagapattinam district

Nagapattinam: Central Government employees, including staff of nationalised banks, would be drafted for election duty in areas identified as sensitive in the district as per directions of the Election Commission, said M. Jayaraman, Collector, here on Saturday.

The Collector, who had a discussion with officials in this regard, said that all the Central Government offices in the district and also nationalised banks had been requested to give a list of employees willing to work for poll work in sensitive areas. He pointed out that for the first time, micro observers had been appointed in sensitive areas for smooth conduct of polls.

The meeting was attended by A. Annadurai, District Revenue Officer, tahsildars, R. Muthusamy, Chief Regional Manager, Indian Overseas Bank, the lead bank of the district.

They discussed in detail arrangements being made for the polls, including posting of adequate staff to man the polling stations to conduct polls in a smooth manner.

Mr. Jayaraman pointed out that all the polling stations were being inspected and the district administration was taking steps to provide basic amenities there.
