Normal functioning of most of the Central Government offices here was completely paralysed on Wednesday after the employees struck work pressing their demands.

Urging the Union Government to set-up the Seventh Pay Commission immediately, to fill-up the 6 lakh-odd vacancies, to withdraw the new pension scheme and to merge 50 per cent dearness allowance with basic pay, the employees went on strike on Wednesday.

Following the agitation, routine functioning was affected in most of the Central Government offices here.

Tuticorin

Many central government employees and workers boycotted work here on Wednesday in the wake of strike called by the Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers Inspectors of Custom House, Tuticorin and other employees of the central government organisation did not turn up to work. Routine in post offices was also affected. Except Head Post office and Sub Post offices at Chidambara Nagar and Melur, many post offices at Polenayakkanpettai, Vetrivelpuram, Harbour Estate, Thermal Nagar, Korampallam, Pudukottai and Sawyerpuram remained closed.
