Thirukalyanam was held at Sri Alarmel Manga Samedha Srinivasa Perumal Temple at Kalyanapuram near Kandiyur on Thanjavur-Thiruvaiyaru road on Saturday.

Hundreds of devotees witnessed the celestial wedding. The festival was preceded by Januvasam and Nichayathartham on Friday. On Saturday morning, the festival started with Lord Srinivasan being taken in a procession.

He went on Kasi Yatra and later was joined by Goddess Alarmel Manga. Maalai Matruthal took place followed by other rituals. “Appakoodai Pakshanangal” and “Seervarisai” were brought. Thirumangalya Tharanam was done after Kannika Dhanam at 1 p.m. Later all devotees who attended the marriage were provided with food. The divine couple will be taken in Pushpa Pallakku on Wednesday.

Located on the banks of Cauvery, the temple has Lord Srinivasan as principal deity. There is a mention about this temple in Brahmananda Puranam of Harasaba Vimochana Perumal Temple of Kandiyur.

The puranam speaks about “Esanyabage Srinivasa Perumal at Kalayanapuram” which is located to east of Kandiyur on Thanjavur-Thiruvaiyaru road. It is said saint composer Thyagaraja, who lived at Thiruvaiyaru, used to visit the temple every day.

Andavan Swamigal of Periyashramam and Ahobila Mutt Jeer visited the temple. Mahasamprokshanam was performed to the temple in 1962 and 1991.
