Udhagamandalam: A dance programme organised by the Nilgiris Cultural Association (NCA) in association with the Mudra School of Dance at Coonoor recently provided a visual treat to a large number of people including many tourists.
The programme titled ‘Celebrate India’ featured dances which depicted the rich and ancient culture of various states.
Led by the Founder of the Mudra School Bhavani Viswanath, the dancers showcased their talent in a variety of ways.
Among the dances were the Kurathi of Tamil Nadu, Chithirai Thirunal of Kerala, Kutchipudi of Andhra and the Dandia of North India.
A few numbers related to Brindavan and Lord Krishna went down well with the audience.
The Chairman, Ambal Autos, K. Krishnakumar who was the Chief Guest observed that the youth of the district were now more culture conscious thanks to the programmes of a varied kind organised by the NCA over the years.
Teresa Bullmore, the Correspondent of Bulmore’s Matriculation School also spoke.
Mr.Krishnakumar presented the Mudra award to the President, NCA P.S.Sundar. Mr.Sundar said that since its inception ten years ago, the NCA has organised 85 programmes. In keeping with its policy, entry fees are not collected for any of the programmes. The Convenor, NCA S. Ananthakrishnan proposed a vote of thanks.
