Coimbatore: Second Additional District Judge and Judge of the Court for CBI cases, S. Ramamurthy, on Friday convicted and sentenced a bank official to undergo one-year rigorous imprisonment and pay fine of Rs.2,000 in a graft case.

According to prosecution, Nalini, director of a private firm, had approached T. Kaliyan, chief manager of the Karamadai Branch of Indian Overseas Bank, for enhancement of credit limit for her firm on July 11, 2008.

Bribe demanded

Mr. Kaliyan demanded a bribe of Rs.50,000 on August 4, 2008 for sanctioning it.

When the money was handed over on August 5, Anti Corruption Bureau personnel of the CBI caught him.

The banker was charged with under sections 7 (Public Servant taking gratification other than legal remuneration in respect of an official act) and 13 (criminal misconduct by public servant) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

CBI Prosecutor S. Natarajan appeared for the prosecuting agency.
