Public Works Minister K.V. Ramalingam, on Saturday, criticised the Central Government for causing inordinate delay in notifying the final award of the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal.

Stating that the Congress-led Union Government was giving a ‘step-motherly treatment’ to Tamil Nadu on various issues, the Minister told newspersons that the Centre had failed to make the Karnataka Government comply with the directions of the Supreme Court and release water. The Karnataka Government’s failure to release to Tamil Nadu its due share of water and the failure of monsoon had severely affected the farmers in the Delta districts, he said.

Mr. Ramalingam alleged that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam was instigating the farmers in the Delta region to resort to unnecessary agitations. Chief Minister Jayalalithaa would announce relief to the affected farmers at an appropriate time, he said.
