Lighting strikes killed four cattle in Uthangarai on Tuesday night and another three were electrocuted near Shoolagiri in the early hours on Wednesday.

Police sources said that four milk cows tied to the back yard of S. Murali’s house in Uthangarai died in the lighting strike on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, three milk cows belonging to D. Ramasamy and K. Nagesh of Enusonai village were electrocuted, after they came in contact with a live electric wire.

Revenue officials examined the cattle and are in the process of recommending compensation from the government, official sources here said.

Rainfall

The rainfall recorded in Marandaalli was 200mm while it was 92.2mm in Krishnagiri.

Heavy to moderate rain swept across Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts till 8.30am on Wednesday.

Rainfall reported in other areas (in mm) in the district are Marandaalli 200, Hogenakkal 69, Pennagaram 70, Pappireddipatti 58.1, Harur 41.3, Palacode 30, Collectorate 16 and Dharmapuri 8. The total rainfall registered in the district was 476.4mm.

In Krishnagiri district, the maximum rainfall of 92.2mm was registered in Krishnagiri town. Rainfall registered in other parts of the districts (in mm) are; Uthangarai 63, Royakottai 59, Hosur 44, Nedungal 40, Benugondapuram 32.2, Barur 31, Denkanikottai 27.7, Anchetti 12, Shoolagiri 18, and Thally 10. The total rainfall registered was 464.5mm, sources said here on Wednesday.

Low lying areas in and around Krishnagiri were inundated in the flood. People in Agraharam street in Devasamuthram and adjoining areas said that they experienced difficulty in wading through water logged roads.
