Officials of the Labour Welfare Department conducted surprise checks in shops and hotels at Central and Chathram bus stand areas in the city recently and booked cases against traders found violating rules.

Headed by Inspector of Labour, Tiruchi, K.Palani, the team checked 52 shops and hotels and detected violations in some of them.

Six cases were booked under Packaged Commodities Rules, seven under Tamil Nadu Legal Metrology Act and two each under Shops and Establishment Act and Catering Establishment Act.

Checks were also conducted in 29 shops and hotels in Pudukottai and Aranthangiand two cases booked under the Packaged Commodities Rules.
