The Tirumangalam Town Police have registered a case against Rajendra Balaji, Minister for Information, on the charge of threatening public servants during the just concluded Lok Sabha elections.

Following a complaint from Tirumangalam VAO Palraj, the police registered a case under Sections 189, (threat of injury to public servant) and 505 (1b), (2b) (intent to cause fear to the public), among others.

The Minister was entrusted with poll works by AIADMK in the Virudhunagar constituency. The Tirumangalam Assembly segment in Madurai district is part of the constituency.

The complaint was that the Minister, while addressing the party cadre at a meeting on March 16, was quoted as saying, “Any official who interfered or threatened to book case against us may have to face the consequences after the election is over.”

The statement of the Minister had created a flutter among officials.
