The Cantonment Police here have registered a case against Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader Thol.Thirumavalavan and five other party functionaries for disobeying police order and conducting a meeting here on Friday.

Police sources said permission was not accorded for the party to organise a public meeting at Khadi Craft junction and that permission had been obtained for the leader to address from the vehicle only.

However, the party functionaries had installed flex boards and put up a stage without obtaining permission.

Further, the meeting also went beyond permitted time, the sources said.

A case has been registered under IPC sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant). Those named as accused were yet to be arrested, the sources added.
