The Enforcement Wing (Tirupur unit) of State Handlooms Department on Thursday evening detected three power loom units producing handloom items falling under the ‘reserved category’ of handloom products brought out by the Union Government. A S. Mathurbootheswaran, Assistant Enforcement Officer of Handlooms, said that the units situated in the outskirts of Avinashi were involved in the production of grey cotton saris, and certain types of dhotis which were among the 11 items coming under the ‘reserved category’ of handloom items.

The police had registered cases against the owners of the units, Sunder Raj, Prakash and Selvaraj, under the Handlooms (Reservation of Articles for Production) Act, 1985, based on a complaint by the Enforcement Wing officials.
