CHENNAI: The Thanjvaur based SASTRA University and The Hindu is jointly organising a career fair in Nuclear Engineering on June 7.

This day-long event will present the M.Tech Nuclear Engineering programme to be offered by SASTRA University jointly with the Canadian based University of Windsor , the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research , Kalpakkam, and the Mumbai based Larsen & Toubro Heavy Engineering. Experts from the renowned research organisations, nuclear establishments and the industry will address the students on the growing opportunities that await Nuclear Engineering professionals.

“The Indo-U.S. nuclear deal presents a prospective growth in nuclear trade in India and we should not fall short of qualified nuclear engineering professionals. This move by SASTRA University is in the right direction,” observed V.S. Ramamurthy, former Secretary, Union Department of Science & Technology, and currently Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT, Delhi. Prof. Ramamurthy also played a key role in formulating the curriculum for this unique M.Tech. programme along with professionals from IGCAR, BARC and IUAC.

The course has an inter-disciplinary approach with inputs from Mechanical, Chemical Engineering & Physics Departments of SASTRA University besides support from IGCAR and L&T Heavy Engineering. The students will also have the opportunity to visit the University of Windsor in Canada for two terms to complete a part of their course work and return to India for their internship at L&T / IGCAR. . This career fair will be conducted at the PSBB School, KK Nagar, Chennai and is open to all UG Engineering and PG Science graduates from related streams.
