Ration cardholders from Arulananda Ammal Nagar staged a road roko on the Thanjavur-Pudukottai road on Wednesday demanding provision of kerosene to them from the ration shop managed by Cauvery Co-operative Wholesale Super Market.

This shop caters to the needs of cardholders from Pookkara Street, Anna Nagar and Arulananda Ammal Nagar. The requirement of kerosene for supply to the ration card holders is 21,590 litres, but for the month of March, only 15,590 litres was supplied to the shop for distribution. Many card holders were left out and they were given tokens to get kerosene on April 3. When 150 card holders came today, they were not given kerosene. Angered over this, they organised the agitation. Arjunan, DSP, Thanjavur town, and Murugadoss, Thanjavur tahsildar, spoke to people and on the assurance given by them for supply of kerosene, the agitators dispersed.
