MADURAI: The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) on Tuesday demanded a probe by an independent high powered commission into all riots and terrorist attacks of the last decade to identify the actual accused and the report of this enquiry be made public.

Addressing a press conference here on the entry of the 15-day “Caravan for Peace and Justice” that was launched on November 9, S. N. Sikkander, State secretary and convenor of the Caravan, said that the Malegaon blasts enquiry had exposed the real picture of terrorist network, where an army officer is arrested for allegedly supplying explosives.

He further said that JIH requests not be link terrorists to their religion and term them as Muslim or Hindu or Christian terrorists and also opined that the role of media in these issues needs to be balanced. The JIH stated that the main purpose of the Caravan is to call for peace and justice and to create an awakening among fellow citizens of this country about the triumph of justice and peace.

The caravan began its journey from Kanyakumari and reached Madurai via Tirunelveli, Melapalayam, Kadayanallur and Virudhunagar. The Caravan would move to Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Trichy, Coimbatore and reach Chennai on November 24, 2008.
