Sugarcane farmers who supply cane to the government-owned Anna Sugar Mills at Kurunkulam near here undertook a fast in front of the mills at Kurunkulam on Thursday demanding payment of Rs.4,000 per tonne of sugarcane as price for the crushing period during the year 2012-13. S.Ramanthan and Ramasamy, office bearers of the Tamil Nadu Sugarcane Farmers Association, led the fast.

They also demanded conducting of shareholders meeting of the mill in Thanjavur instead of Chennai.

They said that private mills should not be allowed to enter into the area earmarked for Kurunkulam mills for cultivating sugarcane.
