The bank has advanced Rs. 13.50 crores in nine months

ERODE: Canara Bank is advancing loans liberally to the agriculture and its allied operations, said its senior manager, Canara Bank, Gobichettipalayam, recently at a Farmers' Club seminar organised jointly by Canara Bank, Gobichettipalayam, and NABARD.

The Gobichettipalayam branch of the bank had been adjudged first in Madurai circle with respect to lending to agriculture sector.

In nine months, the branch had advanced Rs. 13.50 crores for the agriculture and its allied activities, he said adding the repayment of loans were very encouraging.

The NABARD Assistant General Manager, Seshan Srinivasan, presided over the function.

He elaborated the role and responsibility of Farmers' Clubs in taking new technologies to the field and assisting the bank branch in recovery and deposit mobilisation.

The Kongu Farmers Club president, A. M. Kannusamy, wanted the farmers to get the services of banks.

Kannan, the Assistant Project Officer, MYRADA, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, explained the role of NGOs in the formation of Farmers Clubs.

Suresh and Pachiappan, scientists of the Kendra, M. Moorthy of Canara Bank, Gobi, and K. K. Gunasekaran, president, Kurinji Farmers Club, spoke.
