CHENNAI: Like India, Canada has a highly evolving understanding of what the nation represents in terms of traditions, Canadian High Commissioner in India Lucie Edwards said on Friday.
Canadians are recognising their country's diversity of cultures and ethnicities, Ms. Edwards said at the inaugural session of the 22nd international conference of the Indian Association for Canadian Studies held at Madras University. Ms. Edwards pointed to the similarities between the two countries, including a colonial past, a tribal tradition and diversity of languages and cultures.
Madras University Vice-Chancellor S.P. Thyagarajan said the conference was as a prelude to the 150th year celebrations of the university. The institution was keen on internationalising its higher education programmes, facilitating the coming together of several universities for exchange of knowledge.
