A three-day awareness campaign on various schemes under the Department of Rural Development was inaugurated by Collector C.Munianathan, here at North Poigainallur on Tuesday.

The promotional campaign intended to create awareness on various schemes under the Ministry of Rural Development (MORD) is being conducted under the aegis of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of the Central government and supported by the District Administration.

The campaign is a part of a nation-wide initiative proposed in about 99 districts . Information on flagship schemes of the MORD, including the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme; Total Sanitation Campaign; and Accelerated Rural Drinking Water Programme would be disseminated though public meetings, documentary screenings, , conferences among others. Nagapattinam is one of the six districts in Tamil Nadu chosen for the campaign. Others include, Sivagangai; Cuddalore; Villupuram; Thiruvannamalai; and Dindigal. The drive here is being conducted at Nagapattinam, Sirkazhi, Kollidam, and Keezhvelur.

A similar awareness campaign supported by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Thanjavur division, is being undertaken at Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Pudukottai, and Karaikal .
