The Ariyalur Municipality has planned to launch an intensive campaign to sterilise stray dogs in the town.

While the State government has allotted a van worth Rs. 5 lakh for transporting the dogs to serialisation centre, the municipality has contributed Rs.3.60 lakh towards surgery expenditure.

Till now, the municipality has been using the vehicle of Perambalur Municipality for the purpose. So far, 390 dogs had been sterilised.

It has been planned to cover 570 dogs under the second phase of the campaign, which would be implemented with the support of a Thanjavur-based organisation working for pets and livestock welfare, said Collector E. Saravanavel Raj in a press release issued here on Wednesday.

For complains of stray dogs, residents may contact the municipality at 04329-220988, the release added.
