With just a month left for Lok Sabha polls, electioneering has started picking up in Tuticorin. J. Jeyasingh Thyagaraj Nattarji, AIADMK candidate, and P. Jegan, DMK candidate, launched their campaigns at public places in the town to woo voters. Other contestants were also making door-to-door campaign seeking support.
Tuticorin LS constituency is facing a six-cornered contest this time. After the bifurcation of Tuticorin from its neighbouring district – Tirunelveli – the Tuticorin LS constituency is all set to witness its second Lok Sabha polls. In the constituency’s maiden polls in 2009, S.R. Jeyadurai, a debutant politician, won from this constituency. While political parties including the DMK, the AIADMK, the Congress, the CPI and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the new entrant, are gearing up to face the polls individually, the MDMK has fielded its candidate as an ally of the BJP.
Tuticorin LS constituency comprising six assembly segments has a total of 12,76,628 voters of whom 6,34,309 are men and 6,42,318 women and a transgender.
