A signature campaign against the use of plastic was conducted at Bharathidasan Government College for Women here on Wednesday.

Titled ‘Nurture Nature- Avoid Plastic,' the campaign was part of activities under the National Service Scheme at the college. According to a release, around 3,000 students signed a banner put up for the occasion. The students also pledged to completely avoid the use of plastic inside their campus.

The students said that despite a ban on plastics of certain specifications, violation in the town continued. The campaign was an attempt to remind people of the law and create awareness against the use of banned plastics. They also said that the impact of plastics on the environment was long term as they do not degrade for thousands of years.
