Mayor, Commissioner lead inspections
To prevent breeding of mosquitoes and create awareness among people about dengue fever, Salem City Municipal Corporation has roped in 300 women self-help group members for its campaign.
As many as 11 special committees comprising members of SHG, school and college students and members from NGO’s would carry out anti-larval operations in 10 Wards each day from November 199 to November 24.
During the campaign, members would visit each residence, remove water stagnation in household items, inform people to keep water containers closed and pour abet repellant in water stored containers.
They would also educate the people about dengue, symptoms, how it is caused and treatment available in hospitals.
Mayor S. Soundappan along with Commissioner M. Ashokan and City Health Officer S. Porkodi inspected the campaign carried out in Linemedu in Ward 53 and asked the people to keep their premises clean. He also said that 300 members of SHG were involved in the campaign in all the 60 wards and would continue for a month. Pamphlets carrying message about aedes mosquito that causes dengue and precautionary measures to be taken at home were distributed to the people.
