The State government has realised the need for fostering English language communication skills among the youth or so it seem from the initiatives it is taking in the recent past. One such measure was the special training camp for effective communication in English for the students of the Backward Classes Welfare hostel in Karur.
District Collector S. Jayandhi launched the workshop here on Saturday underlining the need for students to imbibe English language communication skills to be a better prepared person in the future.
While Tamil as the majority people’s mother tongue needs to retain its eminent position without a major international link language such as English it would be difficult to engage this competitive world, she stressed. A total of 115 boys and 95 girls who are inmates of the BC welfare hostels in the district would benefit from the special initiative. Beyond developing communication skills, the course would help them to acquire self confidence and keep abreast of the developments, other speakers told the students.
For a district like Karur, such workshops would go a long way in preparing the youth for the future.
