COIMBATORE: A soil testing camp was conducted recently in Molapalayam, Thondamuthur block. A release from Village Knowledge Centre says M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation brought the mobile testing facility to Coimbatore for the first time.

The aim was to create awareness among farmers on the need for proper soil testing and offer the right professional advice. More than 200 soil samples were given by small and marginal farmers.

N. Krishnakumar, Project Director, Village Knowledge Centre, welcomed the gathering.

P. Silambarasan, Soil Chemist, said that the mobile testing van was fully equipped and testing was done for NPK levels, micro nutrients, etc.

A soil health card with recommendations was given for farmers.

M.N. Kandasamy, MLA, Thondamuthur, inaugurated the mobile soil testing camp.

He spoke on challenges before farmers, labour shortage and income from agriculture.
