SALEM: The District Rural Development Agency has established 106 biogas plants in the district last year, its Project Officer D. Jagannathan said.
Participating at the Rajiv Gandhi Renewable Energy Day function held here recently, he said that the agency was implementing various schemes to promote the use of non-conventional energy sources.
The conventional energy sources such as oil and coal were fast depleting.
The increased usage of renewable sources of energy such as biomass, solar and wind would help the country to achieve energy security, he said. He also called upon the people to come forward to establish more biogas plants.
Exploitation of non-conventional energy sources would reduce the dependence on the conventional sources such as coal and petroleum products, he added.
