60 persons at the camp give blood and 16 pledge to donate their eyes
SALEM: The Tamil Nadu Rural Development Department Officials Association organised a blood and eye donation camp here on Saturday.
A total of 60 employees donated blood and 16 pledged to donate their eyes.
Besides, four officials pledged their bodies for medical research during the camp.
Veerapandi MLA A. Raja inaugurated the camp.
A team of doctors and medical personnel from the Government Medical College Hospital collected the blood.
Speaking at the programme, District Revenue Officer M. Rajarathinam said that the level of awareness among people about voluntary blood donation should be increased.
Hospital Dean P. Shanmugam called upon the people to come forward to donate blood at the Government hospital’s blood bank, which would benefit a large number of poor patients.
Other speakers highlighted the need to promote organ donation.
District Rural Development Agency Project Officer D. Jagannathan, Association State Deputy Secretary Gnanakkan Chellappa and District President R. Subramaniam were present.
