The Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged the Central and State governments to extend educational assistance to all eligible poor students, particularly Hindus and all those below poverty line, BJP State president Pon. Radhakrishnan has appealed.
He was addressing a large gathering at a demonstration near the clock tower here on Saturday evening. Both Central and State governments should ensure that all students received educational assistance. At present, the State government led by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party and Congress-led United Progressive Alliance central government had failed miserably to provide educational assistance to all the needy students.
All students should be treated equally, irrespective of their religion. Whatever the assistance extended to minorities should also be extended to the poor students in Hindu community, he appealed.
The State president insisted that BJP was not for politicising the issue in the State.
“We staged the demonstration in the larger interests of students across the State.” Later, the BJP party men and youth from different parts of the district shouted slogans urging the governments to be fair with Hindu students in disbursing assistance.
