Medical, sales representatives take out rally

Members of Salem unit of the Tamil Nadu Medical and Sales Representatives Association took out a rally highlighting a charter of demands here on Tuesday.

Submitting a petition to Chief Minister through appropriate forum, these members also resorted to a day’s strike. The members said that the State should enforce Sales Promotion Employees Act and notify eight hour work schedule for medical representatives.They wanted that the legal working right of sales promotion employees and hospitals, institutions and clinics should also be notified. The members further insisted that Industrial Tripartite Committee for sales promotion employees with Federation of Medical and Sales Representatives Associations of India as one of the constituent as per the directions of the decision of tripartite meeting held on November 12, 2010, should be constituted immediately.

They urged that statutory working rules for sales promotion employees under the Sales Promotion Employees (SPE) Act should be declared while for violations, imprisonment as punishment should be incorporated into the provisions of the same Act. Sales promotion women employees should be given six months maternity leave.

Section 2(j)ii(b) of Industrial Dispute Act declaring sales promotion as industry should be enforced and SAE Act had to be extended to remaining 30 industries notified. Multinational companies should be prevented from taking over Indian firms while the public sector vaccine and drug producing units must be revived immediately.

The availability of all essential drugs should be ensured through compulsory manufacturing. The State must ensure strict implementation of SPE Act and a minimum wages of Rs. 10,000 per month should be fixed for sales promotion employees.

Later, they also staged a demonstration in which association functionaries and CITU members including T. S. Viswanthan, K. K. Selvan, Karu.Senthilvadivel, S. K. Thiagarajan, K. C. Gopikumar and K. Sathishkumar spoke.
