The ongoing Rs.11 crore four kilometre-long bypass extension work connecting Koneripalayam with Sencheri would be immensely beneficial to the residents of Perambalur as it would further reduce the congestion in the municipal town, Darez Ahmed, district collector, said on Thursday.

After inspecting the works, he pointed out that the Rs.11.5 crore 5.25-km Perambalur bypass road (between the Regional Transport Office and Koneripalayam) inaugurated by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had solved the major traffic issue of Peramabalur town.

Thanks to the road, vehicles from Ariyalur district side need not enter Perambalur while going towards Athur and Salem. This had brought down the congestion in Perambalur considerably.

Now works were in progress to extend the bypass road.

“Once the work is completed , including construction of bridges, all the vehicles from Thuraiyur could directly enter the Tiruchi-Chennai National Highway without touching Perambalur,” he added.

Krishnamurthy, Divisional Engineer, Highways, was present.
