MADURAI: A three-day buyer-seller meet — Texpo 2009 — was inaugurated at MADITSSIA Hall here on Sunday.

Organised by Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) and Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the expo-cum-sale features around 15 stalls put up by manufacturers themselves.

Sales in both retail and wholesale quantities would be done at this exhibition. The expo features, apparels, home textiles, towels, dhotis, saris, churidhars and other products. S. Jeyabalan, Chamber president, inaugurated the exhibition.

Addressing the inaugural function, Ka. Marappan, chairman, (PDEXCIL), said that such buyer-seller meet was held annually by the Council at around 6 locations in India and another five places abroad. The council also works towards promoting and creating an awareness of various schemes of the Central Government for the welfare of this sector.

M.S. Mathivanan, former PDEXCIL Chairman, said that a similar event was under way at Ahmedabad in Gujarat.
