Ambalakkadu, a piece of reserve land located about seven to eight km from Gudalur, went up in flames on Thursday night. The land, which formed part of the Gudalur range, extended over about 4.2 hectares, said S.N.Tejasvi, District Forest Officer, Gudalur, on Friday. He added that some miscreants were responsible for the ground fire which destroyed patches of lemon grass.

He said the fire had been brought under control. During the preliminary investigations, some evidence had been collected from the area and the department had obtained some vital clues.

Pointing out that the motive for starting the fire was under investigation, Mr.Tejasvi said that in about one or two days, action would be initiated.
