Private bus drivers, conductors submit petition to Collector

A section of private bus drivers and conductors stopped operating services on Tirupur-Coimbatore route on Friday to protest against the alleged beating up of the driver and conductor of a bus near Aatayampalayam check post by police personnel on Thursday night.

The driver and conductor, Suresh Kumar and Nataraj, who were reportedly been roughed up were admitted to District Headquarters Hospital.

The protesting drivers and conductors, after submitting a petition to Collector G. Govindaraj seeking action against the police personnel, told reporters that the police persons assaulted the bus crew after accusing them of hitting a divider on the road while plying service in Tirupur-Coimbatore sector.

K. Balasubramanian, a driver, who was among the petitioners, said the bus did not hit any structure rather it was a light motor vehicle going ahead of the bus knocked the divider.

The drivers and the conductors, who came in support of their fellow injured crew, accused that two police men in uniform and three others in mufti were involved in the assault. “The Collector has promised to look into the matter,” they said.
