Valuables worth Rs. 4.36 lakh, including gold jewels weighing about 28 sovereigns, a silver plate, a silver tumbler, a cell phone and a DVD player, were stolen from a locked house in Sathumadurai village near here on Monday.

According to police sources, R. Mohan (47), resident of the house in Murugan Street in Durga Nagar in Sathumadurai and his wife, locked the house at 8.30 a.m. on Monday.

They went to their native village in Arcottankudisai.

Locks broken

When they returned home at 6.15 p.m. the same day, they found the locks of the front and main doors broken, while the main door was damaged.

When they went inside, they found the valuables missing from the bureau.

Culprits, who broke the locks, had opened the door by using a crowbar.

The Vellore Taluk Police is investigating.

Still at large

The culprits are still at large.
