The HAL police have cracked the murder of 12-year-old Naveen Kumar with the arrest of a burglar, who is accused of having killed the boy after he witnessed the accused breaking into a house.

The boy, a class 6 student, was found murdered in a vacant area near the Islampura slum, with his head crushed with a brick. His body was found a week after he went missing on November 8.

The police said that the accused, Mohammed Sharif (21), a resident of the slum, had recently committed a burglary that the boy had reportedly noticed. Fearing that Naveen would inform the police, Sharif plotted to kill the boy and approached Naveen on November 8. He lured him saying he wanted to fly kites with him but allegedly crushed his face and head with a brick and later covered his body with a banner.

Upon questioning some of the youths from the Islampura slum, the police learnt that Naveen and Sharif had been seen together on November 8. Based on this, the police tracked down the burglar and nabbed him.
