He had looted jewellery weighing 101 sovereigns, say police

Police recovered stolen gold jewellery, a laptop and a video camera worth about Rs. 15 lakh following the arrest of a man during a vehicle check on Tuesday night.

According to the Deputy Superintendent of Police M. Madasamy, gold jewellery weighing 45 sovereigns had been burgled from a house in Chandra Colony a few days ago.

A police team had been formed to crack the case.

Vehicle checks

When the team members were carrying out vehicle checks on the Coonoor-Ooty Road, a motorcyclist had aroused their suspicion.

His vehicle was intercepted, injuries were made, and he was identified as B. Manoj (26) of Addar Estate near Coonoor.

When questioned. he admitted that he was involved in four cases of waylaying, and five burglaries and thefts. He had looted jewellery weighing about 101 sovereigns.

He was produced before the Coonoor Magistrate on Wednesday and remanded to 15 days judicial custody.
